+ + + La Réunion: Dream destination for Gays, Nature & Outdoor fans + + +
The tropical island of La Réunion, a French territory in the southern Indian Ocean, is considered as a downright gay friendly travel destination. More than 50 hotels and tourist companies on the island have signed the Gay Friendly Charta, which was set up by the local tourism board and commits to respectful and cordial treatment of gay and lesbian tourists and the best possible service.
The liberal and open-minded atmosphere and a small but familiar gay scene in the capital St. Denis and further towns are not the only reasons for a trip to the island. Abundant nature, miles long beaches and stunning volcanic landscapes make the island an eldorado for outdoor activities. Hiking, climbing, paragliding, sunbathing on gay beaches and all kind of watersports - there is hardly anything that is not offered on La Réunion. In 2010 almost half of the island was declared as World Natural Heritage Site by the UNESCO, which underlines once more the island's uniqueness.
